“Mediterranean Terrace with Sailboats” is created in my favorite technique — expressive impasto, where thick layers of oil paint are applied with a palette knife. I deeply love this method because it brings the scene to life. The textured brushstrokes create a vivid, almost three-dimensional effect, as if you are looking through a window and witnessing the view in real time.
This large-scale work (60 × 80 cm / 24 × 30 in) required особая концентрация и время. Working in a bigger format always presents additional challenges: the transitions between colors must be more refined, the composition must feel balanced at distance, and every layer of paint is applied entirely by hand. The process unfolds over several days, allowing the surface to build depth and character.
Interestingly, the initial sketch I created on a small A4 sheet felt too simple once transferred onto the large canvas. For a moment, I felt uncertain about the direction of the piece. With the encouragement and thoughtful support of my husband, I began reimagining the composition. I experimented with digital collages, searching for a stronger narrative and richer visual harmony.
What emerged is one of the most complex works I have created — and also one of my most beloved. Many viewers are immediately drawn to it, and I believe the emotions I invested in this painting can be felt. It reflects my genuine love for coastal landscapes — the sea, sailboats, colorful umbrellas, blooming flowers, lush greenery, fountains, and sunlit seaside terraces.
This artwork carries not only texture and color, but also perseverance, inspiration, and deep affection for the maritime world.
